Newgate Communications has appointed James Hill as its Managing Partner in Greater China, based in Hong Kong, effective from 22 September 2020. James will oversee the firm’s expansion in Greater China and work with colleagues in the Asia-Pacific region to expand the firm’s pan-regional client base.
In his 20-year career, including the last decade in Hong Kong, James has advised senior executives from Asian and global organisations on a range of issues, including complex reputation mandates, fund launches, contested and friendly transactions, litigation, restructurings, issues and crisis management, and shareholder activism.
Commenting, James said: “Newgate is an outstanding firm with a talented team and a blue-chip client roster. As China and other Asian economies emerge first from the COVID-19 crisis, corporate leaders and disruptors in the region are harnessing communications to support their efforts to rebuild or capture new areas of growth.
“In the twelve months since merging with SEC, the firm has made impressive progress in building its global footprint, capabilities and team. With the support of the network, I am confident that our Greater China business will make an invaluable contribution to the Group’s future growth.”
Newgate Hong Kong has forged a strong reputation for providing financial communications and government affairs support for high profile leaders in the investment management, professional services, technology, consumer and sustainability sectors. Its clients range from global multinationals to Hong Kong and Chinese businesses and start-ups.
Commenting on the appointment, SEC Newgate Deputy CEO and Newgate Australia Managing Partner Brian Tyson, added: “The team in Hong Kong has always been a great asset to the agency. Its client base and team expertise places it amongst the best in the industry in Asia Pacific. With James on board, we look forward to a period of expansion in the region. He is highly respected in the HK and Greater China market and appreciates and embraces our ambition to provide clients with the best of integrated communications across financial communications, corporate communications and public affairs throughout Asia and our global footprint.”
Prior to joining Newgate, James was General Manager of Sandpiper Communications (formerly MHP Communications Asia) in Hong Kong and, before that, Partner of Finsbury Asia. Before moving to Hong Kong, James held agency and in-house roles in London, including Head of Financial Public Relations at a FTSE 100 telecommunications company.
